Subseksyen 44(1) Akta ibu dipinda dengan menggantikan perkataan “shall be guilty of an offence of cruelty and shall be liable to a fine of two hundred ringgit or to imprisonment for a term of six months or to both” dengan perkataan “commits an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding fifty thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both.”.
