This order may be cited as the Legitimacy Act (Extension) Order, 1971, and shall come into force on the 1st day of January, 1972.

Opening note
This order may be cited as the Legitimacy Act (Extension) Order, 1971, and shall come into force on the 1st day of January, 1972.
The Legitimacy Act, 1961, shall have effect with the modifications set out in the Schedule to this Order and as so modified is hereby extended to Sabah and Sarawak.

Substitute the following for paragraph (c):
"(c) in the case of the States of Kedah, Kelantan, Trengganu and Perlis, the 23rd day of March, 1961;
in the case of the States of Sabah and Sarawak, the first day of January, 1972;".
2 (2), 4, 5 (1), 10 For "the Federation" substitute "Malaysia". (1)
2 (2) For "Merdeka Day" substitute "Malaysia Day"

Substitute the following for subsection (1):
"(1) Nothing in this Act shall operate to legitimate a person unless the marriage leading to the legitimation was solemnised and registered in accordance with the provisions of—
the Civil Marriage Ordinance, 1952, or the Christian Marriage Ordinance, 1956;

the Christian Marriage Ordinance or the Marriage Ordinance, 1959, of Sabah; or
the Church and Civil Marriage Ordinance of Sarawak, or any Enactment or Ordinance repealed by any of the said Ordinances.".
