Article XXXVI
Article XXXVI
(1)
The Ruler shall appoint, by Instrument under His Sign Manual and State Seal, a Menteri Besar in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (a) of
Clause (2) of Article XXXVIII.
(2)
Subject to the provision of Clause (3)
of this
Article no person shall be appointed as a Menteri Besar unless he is of the Malay race and professes the Muslim
Religion.
(3)
In appointing a Menteri Besar the Ruler may, in
His discretion dispense with any provision in the
Constitution of this
State restricting His choice of a
Menteri Besar, if in His opinion it is necessary to do so in order to comply with the provisions of paragraph
(a)
of Clause (2) of Article XXXVIII.
(4)
Notwithstanding anything in this Article, a person who is a citizen by naturalisation or by registration under Article 17 of the Federal Constitution shall not be appointed a Menteri Besar.
