Kaedah-Kaedah ini, dipinda dalam perenggan 3(1)(a), dengan menggantikan perkataan

“lima peguam bela dan peguam cara” dengan perkataan “tujuh peguam bela dan peguam cara”.

(a)

dengan memotong subkaedah (3); dan

(b)

dengan menomborkan semula subkaedah (4) sebagai subkaaedah (3).

“Cawangan amalan undang-undang berkumpulan

Suatu amalan undang-undang berkumpulan boleh mempunyai satu atau lebih cawangan, dengan syarat bahawa—

(a)

premis bagi cawangan amalan undang-undang berkumpulan hendaklah didaftarkan dengan Majlis Peguam; dan

(b)

setiap firma dalam amalan undang-undang berkumpulan hendaklah mempunyai cawangan firma di premis yang dirujuk dalam perenggan (a) dan cawangan firma itu hendaklah didaftarkan dengan Majlis Peguam.”.

LEGAL PROFESSION (GROUP LAW PRACTICE) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2024

Opening note

Preamble

IN exercise of the powers conferred by section 77 of the Legal Profession Act 1976 [Act 166], the Bar Council, with the approval of the Attorney General, makes the following rules: Citation and commencement 1.

(1)

These rules may be cited as the Legal Profession (Group Law Practice)

(Amendment) Rules 2024.

(2)

These Rules come into operation on 20 June 2024.

Amendment of rule 3 2.

The Legal Profession (Group Law Practice) Rules 2018 [P.U. (A) 142/2018], which are referred to as the “principal Rules” in these Rules, are amended in paragraph 3(1)(a), by substituting for the words “five advocates and solicitors”

the words “seven advocates and solicitors”.

Amendment of rule 4 3.

Rule 4 of the principal Rules is amended—

(a)

by deleting subrule (3); and

(b)

by renumbering subrule (4) as subrule (3).

Amendment of rule 5 4.

Subrule 5(1) of the principal Rules is amended by substituting for the words

“subrule 4(4)” the words “subrule 4(3)”.

Amendment of rule 6 5.

The principal Rules are amended by substituting for rule 6 the following rule:

“Group law practice branch

Seksyen 6

A group law practice may have one or more branches, provided that—

(a)

the premises of the branch of the group law practice shall be registered with the Bar Council; and

(b)

each firm in a group law practice shall have a branch of the firm at the premises referred to in paragraph (a) and the branch of the firm shall be registered with the Bar Council.”.
