PROCLAMATION
BY HIS EXCELLENCY SIR WILLIAM ALLMOND CODRINGTON GOODE, Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of North
Borneo.

Preamble
- WHEREAS it is provide by the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, that the legislature of any British possession may, by Ordinance confirmed by Her Majesty in Council, repeal wholly or in part any provisions of that Act (other than those of the Third Part thereof which relate to emigrant ships) relating to ships registered in that possession; but that any such Ordinance shall not take effect until the approval of Her Majesty has been proclaimed in that possession or until such time thereafter as may be fixed by the Ordinance for the purpose: AND WHEREAS the Legislative Council by an Ordinance No. 11 of 1960 entitled “An Ordinance to make better provision in the law relating to merchant shipping and for matters incidental thereto” has in part repealed the provisions of the said Act that apply to ships registered in North Borneo (other than those of the Third Part thereof which relate to emigrant ships): AND WHEREAS information has been received through Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies that Her Majesty by and with the advice of Her Privy Council has been pleased to confirm the said Ordinance: AND WHEREAS the Governor is empowered by subsection (2) of section 1 of the said Ordinance to appoint a date upon which the Ordinance shall come into operation and by subsection (3) of that section to appoint different dates in relation to different provisions: NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM ALLMOND CODRINGTON GOODE, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of North Borneo do hereby proclaim that Her Majesty has been pleased to confirm such Ordinance and I further appoint the third day of January, 1961, as the date on which section 2, section 130 and section 265 shall come into operation.
