of Forest Danum Valley Conservation Area Rules 1996
Section 1
(1)
These rules may be cited as the Forest (Danum Valley Conservation Area)
Rules 1996 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1st December, 1995.
(2)
The privileges and conditions declared in these rules shall apply to the area of the Danum Valley Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 91/88C, Bukit Piton
Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 77/123, Sungai Taliwas Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 78/171, Malua Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No.
76/1D, Danum Valley Forest Reserve (Extension) as delineated on F.D. Map No. 76/248,
Mount Louisa Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 91/100, Mount Louisa Forest
Reserve (Extension) as delineated on Map No. 91/101, Ulu Segama Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 92/104E, Sepagaya Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D.
Map No. 93/127A, Sapagaya Forest Reserve (Extension) as delineated on F.D. Map No.
93/148, Sapagaya Forest Reserve as delineated on 93/132A, Silam Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 93/153, Tg. Tumunong Hallo Forest Reserve as delinated on
F.D. Map No. 93/151, Northern Gunung Rara Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map
No. 90/124, Mount Louisa Forest Reserve (Extension II) as delineated on F.D. Map No.
105/160 and Kawag Gibong Forest Reserve as delineated on F.D. Map No. 77/67A
(hereinafter called “the Reserve”).

(2)
The membership of the Management Committee shall consist of the following:
(a)
the Chief Conservator or his representative;
(aa) the Secretary of Natural Resources or his representative
(b)
a representative of the Sabah Foundation;
(c)
a representative of the University Malaysia Sabah;
(c)
the representative of the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental
Development; and
(d)
the representative of the University Malaysia Sabah;
Provided that notwithstanding the above provision, the Chief Minister may in his absolute discretion appoint such person as he may deem fit to be the Chairman.
a representative of the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental
Development;
a representative of the Department of Wildlife;
a representative of the Sabah Parks;
a representative of the Sabah Museum;
a representative of the National University of Malaysia;
a representative of the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia;
a representative of the Agriculture University of Malaysia;
a representative of the University Malaysia Sarawak; and a representative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Malaysia.
The Chairman of the Management Committee shall be appointed by the
Chief Minister of Sabah on rotation among the following:
The Chief Conservator or his representative;
the representative of Sabah Foundation;

The Chairman shall hold office for a term of two years from the date of his appointment.
(5)
The Secretary shall be appointed by the Management Committee from among persons serving in the Sabah Foundation for such period as may be determined by the
Management Committee.
(6)
The Management Committee shall have the powers to determine its own development in surrounding areas so as to create a model forest management area in Ulu Segama that combines conservation, forestry and nature tourism activities on a sustainable long-term basis.
