Section 45
Placement pending proceedings
Any Court inquiring into or trying any offence specified in the Second Schedule (in this Act referred to as “scheduled offence”)
may order a child—
(a)
with respect to whom a scheduled offence is alleged to have been committed; and
(b)
whom the Court considers to be in need of protection,

to be placed temporarily in a place of refuge until the determination of the proceedings against the person charged but the placement shall not extend beyond the date on which the child attains the age of eighteen years.
(2)
Notwithstanding the determination of the proceedings, the
Court may, on an application made by the Protector and if the Court is satisfied that a child is in need of protection, order the placement of the child in a place of refuge but the placement shall not extend beyond the date on which the child attains the age of eighteen years.
