Section 1
These regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Applied Subsidiary Legislation) Regulations, 1961, and shall come into force on the first day of April, 1961.

THE MERCHANT SHIPPING (APPLIED SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION)
REGULATIONS, 1961
Made under sections 277 and 278
Opening note
Preamble
- In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 277 and 278 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1960 [Ord. No. 11 of 1960], and all other powers thereunto him enabling, the Governor in Council, with the consent of the Secretary of State to the first item in the Second Schedule, has made the following regulations:-
Section 2
The Subsidiary Legislation made under the Merchant Shipping Acts of the United Kingdom set out in the First
Schedule hereto is hereby applied, mutatis mutandis, in North Borneo.
Section 3
(1)
The Subsidiary Legislation made under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance of the Colony of Sarawak set out in the Second Schedule hereto is hereby applied, mutatis mutandis, in North Borneo.
(2)
In the application of any of the rules for life saving appliances, as defined in Chapter 24 of the Ordinance, applied by this regulation, fishing vessels shall be deemed to be included in Class VIII if they are engaged in fishing or carrying fish solely within coastal trade limits and in Class IX if they are engaged in fishing or carrying fish other than solely within coastal trade limits.
