Short title.
This Ordinance may be cited as the Muslims (Titles and Construction) Ordinance.
Interpretation.
In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires, “person” includes any officer, authority, Fund, Board or other body of persons, whether corporate or unincorporate.
Alteration of words and expressions in written laws.
Wherever in any written law or in any title of any person appointed under or constituted by any such written law the words, or expressions with the words set out in the first column of the Schedule are used, there shall, unless the context otherwise requires, be substituted therefor the words, or as the case may be, the expressions set out in the second column of the said Schedule.
Transfer of rights, powers and liabilities and of property.
Where the name or title of any person is altered by the provisions of section 3 –
all rights, powers and liabilities which were, immediately before the commencement of this Ordinance, vested in, imposed on or incurred by any such person shall, on the commencement of this Ordinance, be vested in and

imposed on and be deemed to have been incurred by such person under such name or title altered as aforesaid;
all property, moveable or immoveable of whatever description, which immediately before the commencement of this Ordinance was vested in such person, shall on the commencement of this Ordinance and without any conveyance, assignment or transfer whatever, vest in such person under the name or title altered as aforesaid, for the like title, estate or interest and on the like tenure as the same was vested or held immediately before the commencement of this Ordinance.
Power of trustees.
Where property, other than property affected by paragraph (b) of section 4 is held on trust immediately before the commencement of this Ordinance, and the terms of the trust instrument authorise or require the trustees, whether immediately or in the future, to apply any part of the capital or income of the trust property for the purposes of any person whose name or title is altered by virtue of the provisions of section 3, the trust instrument shall be construed as authorising or, as the case may be, requiring the trustees to apply the trust property, to the like extent and at the like times, for the purposes of making payments, whether capital or income, to such person under the name or title altered as aforesaid.
Construction of documents.
In any Order of Court, assurance, conveyance, assignment, appointment, lease, settlement, mortgage, charge, will or codicil or other instrument, so far as they or any of them relate to property vested at the commencement of this Ordinance or which may hereafter come to vest in any person whose name or title is altered by virtue of section 3, a reference to the words, or expressions with words, in the first column of the Schedule shall be construed, unless the context otherwise requires, as if the words in the second column in the said Schedule were substituted therefor, and a reference in any instrument to any person under the name or title which that person had immediately before the commencement of this
Ordinance shall be construed as a reference to such person under the name or title altered as aforesaid.
