Any measurement made for the purpose of any written law shall be traceable to the National Measurement Standards as set out in this Act.
Traceability of a measurement to the National Measurement
Standards may be achieved by means of reference to, comparison with or derivation from the National Measurement Standards either directly or indirectly, through a continuous series of any one, or a combination of any of those means involving the use of one or more appropriate measurement standards and the National
Measurement Standards.
If the establishment of traceability to the National Measurement
Standards is not possible or not relevant, other means for providing confidence in the result of any measurement shall be carried out by appropriate methods established in accordance with procedures not inconsistent with the current written standards as established by the National Measurement Standards Laboratory.
