Section 55
—
(1)
Notwithstanding section 53, a man who has divorced his wife by the pronouncement of talaq outside the Court and without the permission of the Court shall, within seven days of the pronouncement of the talaq, report to the Court.
(2)
The Court shall hold an inquiry to ascertain whether the talaq that was pronounced is valid according to Islamic Law.
(3)
If the Court is satisfied that the talaq that was pronounced is valid according to Islamic Law, the Court shall, subject to section 128—
(a)
make an order approving the divorce by talaq;
(b)
record the divorce; and
(c)
send a copy of the record to the appropriate Registrar and to the Chief Registrar for registration.
