Section 9

If the office of a member appointed by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri becomes vacant, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri may appoint another suitably qualified person to fill such vacancy for so long only as the member in whose place he is appointed would have held office.

Where a member appointed by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri is prevented by illness, absence from the State or other like cause from performing his duties as a member, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri may appoint any suitably qualified person to act as deputy for such member during such period as he is so prevented from performing his duties.
