Section 56

(1)

Any person who fails to comply with or contravenes any requirement or prohibition imposed upon him by any of the provisions of this Act, any specification or requirement made, or any order, directive or notice given, or any limit, term, condition or restriction imposed, in the exercise of any power conferred under, pursuant to, or by virtue of any of the provisions of this Act set out in the second column of the Schedule commits an offence under such provision and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding the amount set out in the third column of the Schedule or to imprisonment not exceeding the term set out in the fourth column of the Schedule, or to both, and in the case of a continuing offence, shall in addition, be liable to a daily fine not exceeding the amount set out in the fifth column of the Schedule for every day during which the offence continues.

(2)

Notwithstanding subsection (1), if the person convicted of an offence under this Act is a body corporate, the punishment of imprisonment set out in the fourth column of the Schedule shall not apply to it.
