Medical Officer and Dental Officer for prisons
The Minister charged with the responsibility for health services shall, whenever the circumstances permit, appoint from the staff of the Ministry of Health a Medical Officer and a Dental Officer for each of the prisons.
(2)
If the circumstances do not permit an appointment under subsection (1), the Minister charged with the responsibility for health services may appoint any registered medical practitioner or any registered dentist to be the Medical Officer or Dental Officer of any particular prison.
(3)
The Officer in Charge shall arrange with the Ministry of
Health or the local department of health for the performance of the duties of a Medical Officer or Dental Officer by another person where the Medical Officer or Dental Officer is unable to perform his duties owing—

(a)
to illness;
(b)
to temporary absence; or
(c)
for any other reason.
