Power to suspend
of Legal Aid and Public Defence Act 2026
Notwithstanding the provisions of this Act, the Minister may, after consultation with the Minister of Finance, by order published in the Gazette, suspend any legal aid or public defence services provided under this Act for a reasonable period on the grounds of public interest.

(2)
Any suspension of legal aid or public defence services made by the Minister under this section shall not affect the legal aid certificate or public defence certificate that has been issued under this Act before the suspension and any matters arising in accordance with the requirements of such certificate shall be continued by the Director General until they are disposed of to the extent that the legal aid or public defence services is not affected by the suspension order.
