Section 53

Section 53

(1)

The Director may declare, by notification in the Gazette, an area where the taking of fish or aquatic life is prohibited on the grounds that –

(a)

it would be a risk to human health if the fish or aquatic life is consumed;

or

(b)

there is a likely risk of an aquatic pest spreading to other areas.

(2)

The prohibition referred to in subsection (1) shall continue to have effect until withdrawn by notification in the Gazette.

(3)

No person shall take any fish or aquatic life from the area declared under subsection (1).

(4)

Any person who contravenes subsection (3) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding fifty thousand ringgit.
