Compensation for certain heritage object
of State Heritage Enactment 2017
(1)
On the discovery of any object having cultural heritage significance, the
Director shall be entitled to the custody and possession of the same on behalf of the
Government and shall be responsible for its safeguarding and safekeeping.
(2)
If the Director decides not to retain such object, it shall be returned to the person who delivered it subject to any condition that may be imposed by the Director.
(3)
When an object is retained by the Director or where in the opinion of the
Director that object should be safeguarded at the place where it was found, the Director shall at his discretion pay a reasonable amount of compensation to –
(a)
the finder;
(b)
the owner of an alienated land in or on which the object was discovered; or
(c)
the informant.
