Section 14
—
(1)
No vessel shall be used for hire or trade or carriage of passengers and goods (other than for private use) upon any river to which this Ordinance applies unless such vessel—
(a)
is registered in accordance with section 15; and
(b)
has its name endorsed upon a valid permit issued under section 15; or
(c)
is exempted from this section by an Order made under section 35(3).
(2)
If any vessel is used on any river without being registered and without having a valid permit, the owner of such vessel shall be guilty of an offence: Penalty, imprisonment for six months and a fine of two thousand ringgit, unless he proves that the offence was committed without his knowledge, consent or connivance.
