Section 20
Trees not to be planted within 4 metres of street

(1)
No tree unless it is of a specie allowed by the local authority shall be planted within 4 metres of any street or back-lane.
(2)
Any person who plants any tree in contravention of this section shall be guilty of an offence and shall upon conviction, be liable to a fine of not less than one thousand ringgit but not exceeding five thousand ringgit, and the tree may be cut down or dug up by order of the local authority.
Compensation in certain cases
(3)
Any tree standing within 4 metres of or overhanging any street or back-lane may be cut down or dug up by order of the local authority:
Provided that where such tree being a fruit tree was planted before the street or back-lane was laid out or intended for a street or back-lane, the local authority shall make such compensation not exceeding fifty ringgit to the owner thereof as is just.
