Section 32

(1)

When the master of a foreign ship being at any port in North Borneo engages any seaman who is domiciled in North Borneo, Sarawak, or Brunei to proceed to any port not

in North Borneo, he shall, save in the circumstances mentioned in subsection (4) of section 20, enter into an agreement with such seaman, and the agreement shall be made before the

Superintendent in the manner hereinbefore provided for the making of agreements in the case of foreign-going ships.

(2)

All the provisions of section 31 respecting the stipulations to be contained in such agreements, and the making and signing of the same, shall be applicable to the engagement of such seaman.

(3)

The master of such foreign ship shall give to the Superintendent a bond with the security of some approved person resident in North Borneo for an amount calculated at the rate of one hundred dollars for every such seaman and conditioned for the due performance of the agreement and the prescribed stipulations and for the repayment to the Government of all expenses which it may incur in respect of any such seaman who is discharged or left behind at any port out of North Borneo and becomes distressed and is relieved under the provisions of the Merchant Shipping Acts.
